Meet the Originators: Christopher Blaise

Christopher is EVP of originations in the northeast and has 25 years of financial services experience in the New Hampshire and New England region.

Q: What are some of the market trends you are seeing in the northeast?

CB:  In the multifamily sector, vacancy rates have been consistently low and have dropped to 3%, ranking the lowest it has been among similar MSA’s since 2000. Rents have mostly performed well, declining by less than 1% since 2015 and less than most markets in the recession.

The office sector, in relationship to other metropolitan statistical areas (MSA’s), vacancies have come down in absolute and relative terms but are still above the median. There has been a steady increase in rent growth since 2012, reaching the top 10% among similar MSA’s.

Q: Given your extensive experience both living and serving the greater Manchester CRE community, how has the market adapted to recent growth?

CB: The commercial real estate industry has become agile and innovative here in New Hampshire and will continue to evolve and adapt as the broader workplace evolves and adapts. Examples of this would be the revitalization of the Mill District in Manchester, NH. This specific area. Commonly referred to as the Silicon Valley of New Hampshire, Mill District is gaining a reputation as a fertile ecosystem for developing technology firms. Another example of adaptation and innovation would be coworking spaces and the development of the live, work, play urban lifestyle development centers. These developments include retail, restaurant, office, hospitality and entertainment all in the same space. Examples of these, currently in development, would be The Tuscan Village in Salem, NH or Market and Main in Bedford, NH. Lots of exciting things going on the New Hampshire market.

Chris has worked in wealth management with Fleet Bank/Bank of America, commercial real estate banking and portfolio management with Hampshire First Bank and Optima Bank & Trust, and insurance at Nationwide. Chris graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Business Administration degree. He enjoys watching all of the New England sports teams and most importantly spending time with his family.
